POLICIES:
SCHEDULING, BILLING, AND MAKE-UP LESSONS
No lessons can be scheduled until the enclosed registration form or online registration has been received. Since demand for private lessons at school far exceeds what the available facilities and free periods can accommodate, parents are urged to register as soon as possible. Forms from students who wish to continue with their present teacher will receive first consideration in the order received, through May 31, 2026. After that date, all lessons will be scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.
Charges are assessed and included in the Brearley invoice monthly. Please note: Parents are responsible for the fee for the entire year of music lessons unless:
• Ms. Youngstein is notified before the fifth lesson that lessons are to be cancelled, OR
• Ms. Youngstein is notified by January 15, 2027 that lessons are to be discontinued for the second semester.
The School offers approximately 28 lessons to a student during the academic year. Lessons will begin on Tuesday, September 22, and end on Friday, June 4. Lessons missed by the teacher or by the student due to class trips or other school requirements will be made up. Lessons missed by the student due to illness or conflicting personal obligations will be made up if possible. Birthday parties, playdates, and similar events are not considered personal obligations.
ABSENCES Parents are asked to telephone and/or email the private teacher directly if their child must miss a lesson. The private teacher should be informed the evening before, if possible, or in the early morning (before 8:00 am) on the day of the lesson. The music teachers will give their mobile telephone numbers and their e-mail addresses to their students for this purpose.
CANCELLATION OF LESSONS Should the private instructor and school administration deem that private lessons be discontinued, the family will be refunded the remainder of the lesson fees for that semester.
VISITING AND CONFERENCES Parents are encouraged to confer with the private teacher about their daughter’s progress and are welcome to attend any of the various student recitals throughout the year.
LESSONS, BEAVER DEN, AND TEAM PARTICIPATION Private Instrumental Lessons is a two-semester program, and thus is not congruent with the trimester format of Beaver Den or Athletics. Teachers will endeavor to make up lessons missed due to team participation, and parents will be responsible for payment for a minimum of 12 lessons per semester.
